onepeople
met with Sue Williamson on her birthday in 1998. A gathering of artists and curators
sat under the starlit Cape Town skies behind Sue's house, laughter and conversation
filling the air, delicious food disappearing from our plates.
Sue
is an inspiration to all that meet her. We were very happy to meet with her and
we arranged to conduct an interview later at her work space. Sue publishes an
on-line art site called Artthrob.
The photos that you see above were taken at the Johannesburg Biennale and at her
workspace. The photo on the extreme left is used courtesy of the Biennale Program.
Sue
Williamson lives in Cape Town, South Africa and is a practicing
artist who has shown work on the Biennales of Havana,
Sydney, Venice and Johannesburg and at The Museum for
African Art in New York City. Her work has been published
in major public collections both in South Africa and overseas.
She is the author of Resistance Art in South Africa (1989),
and co-author of ART in SOUTH AFRICA the future present
(1996)
